Faulty plumbing? The plumbers at Arco can repair it
We can sometimes take our toilet, taps and sinks around the home for granted – but when they are faulty we soon realise how precious they are! They are some of the most used fixtures in our home, and you never really appreciate having a running toilet; free flowing water out of your taps and water running out of a sink until they decide not to run anymore.
Faulty toilets, taps and sinksFaulty plumbing is such an inconvenience. Usually there are tell-tale signs that show you that things may be going wrong. Let’s take a look at what can go wrong with each fixture in turn. Here are some common calls we’ve answered at Arco:
Faulty toilets My toilet sounds like it’s constantly running… This can be caused by a toilets flapper valve not working properly. The job of the flapper valve is to refill the bowl from the tank, but if this valve has a leak it will be unable to seal itself so water will continue to seep into the bowl. The result is a toilet that sounds like it is constantly running with an occasional random flush. My toilet is clogged… Clogged toilets are probably the single most common toilet problems we encounter at Arco Heating and Plumbing. A blocked toilet can be caused by numerous things and whilst clogged, cannot be used. My toilet is overflowing… Toilet clogs and toilet overflows are problems that occur in tandem. Bottom line is that the |

consequences of a clogged toilet can cause the bowl to overflow with water that is dirty and full of bacteria. Toilet overflows can also have an impact on other fixtures in your bathroom, so getting it seen to by a professional, as soon as possible, is always the best option.
Other toilet problems could be:
Broken water supply valve
Put simply, if this valve is broken it can leave your toilet with a reduced water supply. The valve is located in the tank of your toilet and allows water to make its way in. A water supply valve that malfunctions is usually caused by hard water, grit or calcium that can build up on the valve.
Not enough power
As with all fixtures, sometimes the bits that hold them together need updating. If your toilet doesn’t have enough flushing power, replacing the valves and parts located in the tank can help to reinvigorate your toilet with a stronger flush.
So however smelly the job - call the team at Acro Plumbing and Heating to talk through how we can make your toilet flush freely once more.
Taps
A dripping tap or a leaking tap can be an inconvenient problem whether it occurs in the kitchen or bathroom. Taps can be bought in two varieties. A traditional tap has an internal rubber seal or washer and it’s usually one of those that need replacing if a drip occurs. The other type of tap is a monobloc lever, identified by having a single handle that controls water flow and temperature. Their internal structure differs from traditional taps as they have ceramic cartridges that occasionally need replacing.
Taps can also suffer from having a weak flow of water. The make and build of a tap dictates whether or not it requires a high or low water pressure system. If this is a problem you have, get in touch as we’d be happy to advise you on the type of water pressure you have and change your taps accordingly.

Sinks
Sinks are another household fixture that we take for granted and often ignore. As long as the water runs away smoothly and is fit for purpose as soon as it’s empty we're happy. Kitchen sinks and bathroom sinks should be used for the sole purpose of eliminating dirty water – but most households do not oblige and this is what causes clogged sinks or blocked up sinks to impact negatively on pipework and the environment.
What we pour down the drain can cause mayhem in household pipes, septic systems and sewage systems. This is turn can mess up water ecosystems and their inhabitants. Although water treatment facilities can remove many contaminants, harmful chemicals and substances still end up in our rivers, lakes and oceans.
